One man was killed and two others injured during a shooting in Arouca on Sunday night.
Police said the victim was Ajay Gajadhar, 28, of Rice Mill Road, Garden Village, Arouca.
Among the injured was a 36-year-old of Arima Old Road, Arima; and a 27-year-old of Rice Mill Road, Garden Village, Arouca.
Officers on patrol around 7.50 pm on February 4 along the Arima Old Road, were stopped by residents who reported the shooting at Rice Mill Road which is close by, and begged them to help the victims.
Upon arriving at the scene, officers found the two men bleeding from gunshot wounds about the body.
As residents and medical officials took the men to the Arima General Hospital, where they were attended to, a third victim arrived seeking medical care.
Gajadhar, who was shot 12 times, died while undergoing emergency treatment.
The Arima victim was treated for a single gunshot wound to the right leg, while the second victim from Arouca was treated for multiple gunshot wounds about the body.
Both victims were stabilised before being transferred to the Eric Williams Medical Sciences Complex, Mt Hope.
The trio had reportedly been liming along Rice Mill Road when a white Nissan B14 with four men stopped.
One man whose face was covered with a balaclava allegedly began firing at the group.
As the men turned to run, Gajadhar fell to the ground, while the two others were able to hide as the gunman’s car sped off.
Forensic officials recovered 19 5.56 mm spent shell casings, and 15 nine mm spent shell casings at the scene.
And in a separate shooting at Febeau Village, Laventille around 2 pm yesterday—a man identified only by his alias “Fathers” was shot by an armed man at his house.
