President Christine Kangaloo distributed the instruments of appointment to the senior legal practitioners including her husband Kerwyn Garcia and her brother Colin Kangaloo during a ceremony at President’s House in Port-of-Spain, a short while ago.
The other appointees were Independent Senator Anthony Vieira, Angostura Holdings Limited Chairman Terrence Bharath, Trinidad Petroleum Holdings Limited Chairman Michael Quamina, Deputy Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) Joan Honare-Paul, Ronnie Bissessar, Rajiv Persad, Rishi Dass, Ida Eversley, John Heath, Larry Lalla, Leslie-Ann Lucky-Samaroo, Jason Mootoo, Ravi Rajcoomar, Dipnarine Rampersad, and Bernard Sheppard.
Newly elected Law Association President Lynette Seebaran-Suite was scheduled to receive her appointment during the ceremony but could not attend due to the death of her mother. A separate ceremony will be held for Seebaran-Suite at a later date.
In her brief address to their attorneys and their relatives who accompanied them, President Kangaloo encouraged them to be mindful of their new status and responsibilities in the legal profession.
“Today is not only about heavy responsibilities, however. It is also about celebrating this significant and happy milestone in your careers,” she said.
“You have all worked extremely hard, year after year, in matters and in circumstances which have challenged and stretched you to the limits of your professional abilities, and today, your profession recognizes and celebrates your efforts,” she added.
