La Romaine resident Atiba Xavier will spend his Christmas holidays in jail after he pleaded guilty to having a nail in his possession while in the San Fernando Traffic Court. Yesterday, Xavier, 23, of Pond Street, appeared before deputy Chief Magistrate Mark Wellington charged with having a weapon, namely a nail, in his possession in the courthouse on October 11, 2010. He pleaded guilty. Xavier was also charged with uttering a false driver's permit, at Maude Street, La Romaine, on October 7, 2010. He pleaded not guilty.
Police prosecutor Sgt Ronald Williams told the court that around 10.15 am Xaiver attended the court and as he stood before senior magistrate Rajendra Rambachan a metal object fell from his hair. The police retrieved the object. It was a nail three inches long and brown in colour. Xavier said he spent time in jail twice for marijuana possession and fraud. Wellington then sentenced Xavier to six weeks hard labour.
