There will be two funeral services for the late Sir Ellis Clarke on Friday. Details were released yesterday by the Office of the Prime Minister after arrangements were finalised in conjunction with the family of the late former President. The first service, which takes place from 9.30 am, will be a private funeral Mass at the Church of Assumption, Long Circular Road, Maraval.
Father Garfield Rochard, parish priest at Assumption, will officiate at the service which will be attended by close relatives of Sir Ellis. Following this private service, the state funeral will take place from 11.30 am at the National Academy for the Performing Arts (Napa), Port-of-Spain. After the state funeral, Sir Ellis Clarke will be interred in a private family service at the Lapeyrouse Cemetery, Port-of-Spain.
Tomorrow and Thursday, the body of the late Sir Ellis Clarke will lie in state for public viewing at the rotunda of the Red House, Port-of-Spain, from 6 am to 6 pm on each day. Condolences books are currently opened to the public at the Red House, the Point Fortin Borough Corporation, the San Fernando Borough Corporation, the Chaguanas Borough Corporation, the Arima Borough Corporation and the Tobago House of Assembly. Sir Ellis, Trinidad and Tobago's last Governor General and first President, died on December 30 at age 93 after suffering a stroke on November 24.
