In mem­o­ry of El­lis Clarke

Two funerals for Sir Ellis on Friday

There will be two fu­ner­al ser­vices for the late Sir El­lis Clarke on Fri­day. De­tails were re­leased yes­ter­day by the Of­fice of the Prime Min­is­ter af­ter arrange­ments were fi­nalised in con­junc­tion with the fam­i­ly of the late for­mer Pres­i­dent. The first ser­vice, which takes place from 9.30 am, will be a pri­vate fu­ner­al Mass at the Church of As­sump­tion, Long Cir­cu­lar Road, Mar­aval.

Fa­ther Garfield Rochard, parish priest at As­sump­tion, will of­fi­ci­ate at the ser­vice which will be at­tend­ed by close rel­a­tives of Sir El­lis. Fol­low­ing this pri­vate ser­vice, the state fu­ner­al will take place from 11.30 am at the Na­tion­al Acad­e­my for the Per­form­ing Arts (Na­pa), Port-of-Spain. Af­ter the state fu­ner­al, Sir El­lis Clarke will be in­terred in a pri­vate fam­i­ly ser­vice at the Lapey­rouse Ceme­tery, Port-of-Spain.

To­mor­row and Thurs­day, the body of the late Sir El­lis Clarke will lie in state for pub­lic view­ing at the ro­tun­da of the Red House, Port-of-Spain, from 6 am to 6 pm on each day. Con­do­lences books are cur­rent­ly opened to the pub­lic at the Red House, the Point Fortin Bor­ough Cor­po­ra­tion, the San Fer­nan­do Bor­ough Cor­po­ra­tion, the Ch­agua­nas Bor­ough Cor­po­ra­tion, the Ari­ma Bor­ough Cor­po­ra­tion and the To­ba­go House of As­sem­bly. Sir El­lis, Trinidad and To­ba­go's last Gov­er­nor Gen­er­al and first Pres­i­dent, died on De­cem­ber 30 at age 93 af­ter suf­fer­ing a stroke on No­vem­ber 24.
