According to statistics provided by the Police Service's Crime and Problem Analysis Branch (CAPA), for January 2011, Port-of-Spain Division reported 15 homicides, representing the highest figure than the other eight divisions. However, only one case was detected. Central Division recorded eight murders, the second highest number. Half of that figure was detected. Southern, Western, Eastern, and North-Eastern Divisions each tallied four murders, half of which were detected in each respective area. For the same period last year, Western Division recorded 14 murders, the highest figure. Only three were detected. Northern Division recorded the second highest number of murders with 10, three of which were detected.
For February 1 to date, there were three murders in Port-of-Spain and Northern Divisions each, none of which were detected. Eastern and Western Divisions recorded two murders each, none of which were also detected. For the same period 2010, there were 18 murders in Port-of-Spain Division, representing the highest figure out of all the other divisions. Only one matter was detected. Central Division recorded the second highest figure with nine murders, four of which were detected. There were seven murders in Northern Division, one of which was detected. Western and North Eastern Divisions recorded six murders each, two of which were detected in each division.
