Jai's winning song was titled White Oak and Water and he came onstage from the inside of a big white oak bottle for his performance. Batson said he believed much of the criticism had to do with the hefty purse Jai collected for his victory. He said: "Arrive Alive congratulates Mr Rikki Jai on his award, but Arrive Alive would also like to see the art form promote some non-alcoholic related music." Batson said not only chutney soca singers, but exponents of soca and calypso must also embrace more positive messages with less focus on alcohol use, "especially in light of the high number of cases of drivers failing the breathalyser test and getting involved in accidents."
