Chaguanas Carnival has been insured for $5 million, according to Mayor Orlando Nagessar. Speaking during Kiddies Carnival celebrations on Sunday along the Chaguanas Main Road, Nagessar said this was a first for Carnival in Chaguanas and he hoped burgesses would not take "advantage" of the insurance coverage.
Nagessar said the decision to move the celebrations from Ramsaran Street to the Main Road had proved beneficial since there were more patrons at the venue in front of the Chaguanas Market. Chairman of the Carnival Committee, Chaguanas West MP Jack Warner said celebrations in the borough had grown tremendously. He said $500,000 in prizes would be distributed later this month.
