Pres­i­dent George Maxwell Richards' fir­ing of Nizam Mo­hammed as chair­man of the Po­lice Ser­vice Com­mis­sion (PSC) has caused a spi­ral ef­fect in the Po­lice Ser­vice with First Di­vi­sion rep­re­sen­ta­tive-As­sis­tant Po­lice Com­mis­sion­er Fitzroy Fred­er­ick-re­new­ing his call for pres­i­dent of the Po­lice So­cial Wel­fare As­so­ci­a­tion Sgt Anand Rame­sar to re­sign.Fred­er­ick said Rame­sar, who al­so made state­ments about 'eth­nic equi­lib­ri­um" in the way pro­mo­tions were grant­ed in the ser­vice and al­so wrote a let­ter to Mo­hammed ex­press­ing con­cerns about the com­po­si­tion of the Po­lice Pro­mo­tion Ad­vi­so­ry Board, had lost the moral au­thor­i­ty to rep­re­sent the mem­ber­ship."He should re­sign, rather than face the ig­nominy of of­fi­cers hav­ing to ask him to move," Fred­er­ick said in a tele­phone in­ter­view yes­ter­day.

Fred­er­ick, a for­mer vice pres­i­dent of the Po­lice So­cial and Wel­fare As­so­ci­a­tion and for­mer rep­re­sen­ta­tive of the Po­lice First Di­vi­sion As­so­ci­a­tion, said ac­cord­ing to the rules of the as­so­ci­a­tion, once there were suf­fi­cient sig­na­tures to a pe­ti­tion, he could be re­called.He said he was speak­ing on be­half of all po­lice of­fi­cers, in­clud­ing the rank and file who may have lost con­fi­dence in him.Fred­er­ick added: "There is a cri­sis of con­fi­dence in the mem­ber­ship of the Po­lice Ser­vice. Mr Rame­sar has not re­al­ly rep­re­sent­ed the in­ter­est of po­lice of­fi­cers at all."It is very dis­ap­point­ing and the found­ing fa­thers of this or­gan­i­sa­tion would re­al­ly be ap­palled at his con­duct in this mat­ter and oth­er mat­ters."
