Chief secretary of the Tobago House of Assembly (THA) Orville London says he has no sympathy for negligent people who own dangerous dogs. He was responding to a question about the recent increase in attacks on people by dangerous dogs. London stressed that owners of such breed of dogs should not allow their pets to be placed in a position to harm people. "I really have very little sympathy with owners of dangerous dogs who allow their dogs for whatever reason to be placed in a position where they can in fact inflict hurt on human beings," he said.

London said he was eagerly awaiting the implementation of legislation to deal with delinquent dog owners, adding that it was long overdue. "I hope it comes very soon, when there is going to be very strict legislation against persons, not the animals, but the persons who make the decision to keep dangerous dogs...That is their personal decision but they did not take the necessary precautions," he said. "I think the legislation it is long overdue and I think it should be introduced quickly and that the sanctions should be very severe." (CTF)
