Emotions ran high outside the Siparia Magistrates' Court yesterday as Andy Dean, 30, husband of nurse Trichelle Campbell-Dean appeared in court charged with her murder. Campbell-Dean, 28, a mother of two, was strangled and her body buried in a shallow grave near the Palo Seco Oilfield Road last week Friday. Yesterday, angry spectators shouted at Dean, of Syne Trace, Syne Village, Siparia, as he emerged from the courthouse after appearing before a Justice of the Peace.
From as early as 8.45 am, members of the public gathered opposite the courthouse and in front the abandoned Post Office building at the side of the court to see Dean. At around 10.50 am, a marked police vehicle drove into the courtyard and Dean came out of the car accompanied by Sgt Darryl Corrie, who laid the charge. Dean, dressed in a white T-shirt, blue jeans and slippers, was taken to the holding bay cells.
Justice of the Peace Boodlal Balkaran called the matter and read the charge that on a date unknown, between May 22 and May 27 at San Fernando SS Erin Road, Siparia, Dean murdered Trichelle Campbell-Dean. Dean, who was not represented by an attorney yesterday, was remanded in custody to reappear in the same court today. Yesterday, Campbell-Dean was laid to rest at the Los Bajos Cemetery, after a funeral service at the Palo Seco Open Bible Church.
