After being interviewed by police, Sasha Mohammed should offer her resignation to Prime Minister Kamla Persad if she is to be any sort of asset to the PM, political analyst Derek Ramsamooj said yesterday.Mohammed was interviewed last Friday by police investigating e-mail attacks on Express editor Omatie Lyder and reporter Anna Ramdass earlier this year when the Reshmi Ramnarine issue was in the news. After police reportedly traced the e-mail in question to an IP address designated to Mohammed, the authorities called Mohammed in for an interview on the issue and reportedly warned her.
Persad-Bissessar has remained silent on the issue concerning her $30,000 a month adviser job. Mohammed is based at the PM's office.Opposition Leader Keith Rowley, who called for Mohammed's removal, said the PNM continued to feel threatened by the presence of Mohammed (and SIA's Julie Brown) since they had state mechanisms to damage media workers and other citizens "to make the Government look good."Rowley said he could not see how any Prime Minister, who wanted to treat with T&T in a proper way, could have an adviser who was questioned by police.
Yesterday, Ramsamooj added: "If Mohammed resigns, this will curtail any further embarrassment to the Prime Minister."Clearly there is a question of integrity and public trust and the chief messenger has now become controversial and will be ineffective in dealing with any Government message with any level of credibility."After one year in Government, the Prime Minister must now correct any flaws in her Government, free from any fear and favour."The objective of a political leader is to sustain political power and the right political course of action must be adhered to."
Ramsamooj added: "The Prime Minister should consider a critical review of her decision-making processes. "Clearly, the present public relations spin is not creating the type of governance that was promised during the election campaign of 2010."She must also be cognisant of the political consequences of a Government with respect to the pending THA election which will serve as a barometer of her favourability rating and the PP's." PNM MP Colm Imbert said: "From all the commentary on the issue, the Prime Minister should take action." (GA)
