Minister of Health Dr Fuad Khan sent flowers congratulating Melissa Hood Joseph, the mother who delivered triplets at the Mt Hope Women's Hospital last Thursday. The Minister also paid tribute to the delivery team by sending them a large basket of assorted fruits. The triplets were born by emergency caesarean section because of antepartum haemorrhage. The babies, all girls, were delivered at 11.17 pm, 11.19 pm and 11.20 pm. Dr Wayne Quinland performed the caesarean section along with Dr Mark Robinson and nurses-C Francois, F Lopez, F Khan, V Charles and S Browne.
Melissa Joseph and her husband, Anthony, live in Santa Cruz with their one-and-a-half-year-old son Moses. They were excited and pleased with the additions to their family, although Mrs Joseph admitted there would be some financial challenges. She recounted the experience stating that she greatly appreciated the support provided by the entire birth team. The baby girls have been named Faith, Hope and Destiny. Dr Esau Joseph, Medical Chief of Staff at the Mt Hope Women's Hospital, confirmed that the babies were in a stable condition at the Neo-natal Intensive Care Unit (NICU). Babies Faith and Destiny have been placed on ventilators, while Baby Hope has been placed in a head box for oxygen therapy in the NICU.
Dr Bharat Bassaw, consultant obstetrician and gynaecologist at the hospital echoed the sentiments of the Birth department when he gave Minister Khan a "thumbs-up" for recognising the team's efforts. Nursing administrator, Claudette Udika said this gesture from the Minister was welcomed as they were very rarely praised for the hard work they do.
