Msgr Jason Gordon, who has been appointed Bishop of the Diocese of Bridgetown in Barbados and of the Diocese of Kingstown in St Vincent, currently serves as Vicar for Administration in the Archdiocese of Port-of-Spain. An evangelist, lecturer and priest, Gordon is a past student of Fatima College who inherited an underperforming business from his father when he left school. He was able to turn the struggling business around to the extent that he was actually earning more money than many of his friends with university degrees.
The turning point in his life came when he attended a youth meeting at the Living Water Community. This experience sparked a whole new stage in his spiritual journey and at age 22, after two years of balancing his business life and his involvement with Living Water, young Gordon sold the business and became a full-time member of the religious community. He began his studies for the priesthood at Regional Seminary of St John Vianney and the Uganda Martyrs here in Trinidad, but was later sent to Leuven, Belgium, for post-graduate studies. Upon his return from abroad, Gordon taught at the seminary for some time before being ordained a deacon in September 1990 (his ordination had to be postponed because of the July 27 attempted coup), and then as priest in March 1991.
He became involved in several projects in the Living Water Community, including Fountain of Hope, Marian House and communications projects. He also continued to teach at the seminary and began spiritual direction as well as weekend parish ministry. In 2003, Msgr Jason Gordon was appointed parish priest of Holy Rosary and St Martin de Porres in Gonzales. He had an experience of being shaken by a murder in the community on Good Friday morning of that same year, after five murders in six weeks. This prompted him to call a meeting of all of the leaders of the community - from the imams to the pundits to the sports and culture leaders - to talk about what was possible.
He will be ordained on Wednesday, September 21, in the Cathedral of St Patrick in Barbados. Soon after his ordination, he will be installed in the Diocese of Kingstown in the Cathedral of the Assumption.
