Hours af­ter mur­der vic­tims Vonet­ta Haynes-Reyes and her two sons were buried on Wednes­day, po­lice de­tained a 24-year-old male sus­pect from the La Hor­quet­ta area.The sus­pect, who was ar­rest­ed late Wednes­day night, was said to be co-op­er­at­ing with Re­gion 2 Homi­cide de­tec­tives while be­ing in­ter­ro­gat­ed at their of­fices in Arou­ca last night.Sources said the mur­der weapon was yet to be re­cov­ered.In­ves­ti­ga­tors were in the field last night hop­ing to re­trieve the weapon.The of­fi­cers are ex­pect­ed to hold dis­cus­sions with the Di­rec­tor of Pub­lic Pros­e­cu­tions to­day as the sus­pect was re­port­ed­ly pro­vid­ing good leads to solve the mur­ders.Haynes-Reyes, 31, and her sons, Ma­lik, 8, and Makasi, 4, were found mur­dered last week Thurs­day at their Plumba­go Av­enue, La Hor­quet­ta, Ari­ma, home by a 20-year-old friend.

Ma­lik and Makasi were pupils of Ari­ma New Gov­ern­ment School.Last Fri­day, homi­cide de­tec­tives re­leased two sus­pects af­ter ques­tion­ing.Post-mortems con­duct­ed at the Foren­sic Sci­ence Cen­tre, St James, re­vealed that both boys died of chop wounds to the neck, while their moth­er, an em­ploy­ee of a cos­met­ics store at the Trinci­ty Mall, suc­cumbed to stab wounds to the neck. The fam­i­ly was on Wednes­day laid to rest at the D'Abadie In­dus­tri­al Ceme­tery af­ter a fu­ner­al ser­vice at Allen's Fu­ner­al Chapel, Broad­way, Ari­ma.ASP Ken­rick Ed­wards and Sgt Kirt Si­mon of Re­gion 2 Homi­cide are con­duct­ing in­ves­ti­ga­tions.
