Jamaican PM lauds CAL's safety record

The mirac­u­lous land­ing of Caribbean Air­lines flight BW 523 last Sat­ur­day in Guyana must serve to re­in­force CAL's com­mit­ment to its en­vi­able safe­ty record, says Ja­maican Prime Min­is­ter Bruce Gold­ing.In a state­ment is­sued last Sun­day, Gold­ing sent an ex­pres­sion of deep re­gret to T&T and Guyana, af­ter the CAL air­craft end­ed up bro­ken-but sus­tain­ing no fa­tal­i­ties-up­on its land­ing at the Ched­di Ja­gan In­ter­na­tion­al Air­port.Gold­ing said he sent state­ments to Guyana's Pres­i­dent Bhar­rat Jad­geo and Prime Min­is­ter Kam­la Per­sad-Bisses­sar.

"We await the out­come of the in­ves­ti­ga­tion to de­ter­mine the cause of the ac­ci­dent," he said."Caribbean Air­lines has had an en­vi­able safe­ty record and has been com­mit­ted to the prac­tices that en­sure avi­a­tion safe­ty."This un­for­tu­nate ac­ci­dent must serve to re­in­force that com­mit­ment," Gold­ing added.Gold­ing ex­pressed his im­me­di­ate con­cern for the wel­fare of the pas­sen­gers and crew. Ja­maica had sup­port­ed T&T's con­cerns in the re­cent is­sue con­cern­ing the li­cens­ing of RED­jet to op­er­ate in both is­lands.(GA)
