Arima mayor Ghassan Youseph says he is confident in Government's state of emergency measures. He said so hours after police shot and killed two men who attempted to rob Goodwood Racing Service, Green Street, Arima, yesterday. In an interview yesterday, Youseph described the state of emergency as a step in the right direction. "This country has a serious crime problem and the Prime Minister felt this was the best way to deal with it and I feel this shows a commitment to dealing with the situation," said Youseph.

Youseph commended police officers who took charge of the situation yesterday during the shooting incident. "Innocent people have paid the price for the actions of criminals. It is now the time for them to pay the price of their actions," Youseph said. On Sunday, Prime Minister Kamla Persad-Bissessar declared that a limited state of emergency would be instituted in areas deemed as crime hot spots.
