Leading Chinese computer manufacturing firm, Lenovo, has received the contract to provide approximately 17,300 laptops for students entering Form One in September. The Government will spend $53 million to provide the laptops according to Education Minister Dr Tim Gopeesingh, who also said, the cost is $30 million less than last year. Gopeesingh assured that distribution would be done in two weeks from mid-September and not two months like last year. He said the laptops cost US$460 each. He said a digital portal will also be purchased to store information from the curriculum for students' use.
