Hunt on for fifth suspect in rape, robbery of Central family

Po­lice have ar­rest­ed two oth­er sus­pects in con­nec­tion with the rob­bery of a Cen­tral fam­i­ly, in which a woman and her teenage daugh­ter were al­so raped. This brings the num­ber of men de­tained to four. Based on in­for­ma­tion re­ceived, how­ev­er, po­lice are search­ing for a fifth sus­pect. The sus­pects, one of whom gave up him­self near KFC in in Port-of-Spain Fri­day night, are be­lieved to be in­volved in the at­tack on the fam­i­ly at their Long­denville, Ch­agua­nas home on Thurs­day morn­ing. The first two men, both 23, were ar­rest­ed at their homes at Con­struc­tion Street, En­ter­prise and Pen­co Street in Long­denville hours af­ter the in­ci­dent.

Po­lice said on Fri­day night the third sus­pect sur­ren­dered to po­lice in Port-of-Spain. Yes­ter­day morn­ing, a par­ty of po­lice­men from Ch­agua­nas CID went to School Street, En­ter­prise where they ar­rest­ed a 19-year-old man. It is al­leged that he was found with a cell­phone be­long­ing to one of the vic­tims and con­fessed his role in the at­tack. The fam­i­ly, a 49-year-old woman and her three chil­dren, a 17-year-old girl and two sons-ages 19 and 10-were asleep around 3 am in their bed­rooms when four men broke in­to their home.

The teenage girl and her moth­er were raped in sep­a­rate rooms while the sons were tied up. They were robbed of an undis­closed sum of mon­ey and valu­ables. They es­caped in the fam­i­ly's Toy­ota Corol­la. Po­lice said their in­quires re­vealed that a fifth man may have been in­volved. His ar­rest is im­mi­nent, po­lice said. Mean­while six peo­ple were ar­rest­ed on Fri­day night dur­ing an ex­er­cise car­ried out by the Cen­tral Di­vi­sion be­tween 7 pm and 12 mid­night. Two peo­ple were held for drunk dri­ving, six for breach­ing the cur­few and five tick­ets were al­so is­sued for traf­fic of­fences.
