Two men and a woman charged with locking a 12-year-old boy in a kennel with a dangerous animal will reappear in court today. Nigel Hargreaves, 40, Kendall Baptiste, 32, and Nasha Baboolal, 21, were remanded in police custody after being denied bail yesterday. Hargreaves and Baptiste are charged that on July 18, at Upper Valley Road, Cascade they wilfully exposed Brandon Hargreaves to danger causing his health to suffer. They were not called upon to plead when they appeared before Magistrate Christine Charles in the Port-of-Spain Fifth Court.
They were represented by attorney Patrick Godson-Phillip, who argued that the two had been in custody since last Thursday and had been co-operating with the authorities. Charles requested that a trace be done on both men. Recalling the matter at 1.10 pm and then again at 1.30 pm in the Eleventh Court, Magistrate Gloria Jasmath heard that after hisrelease from hospital earlier this week, Brandon was staying with an aunt in San Juan and that his father had not been allowed to have any contact with him.
Objecting to both men being granted bail, prosecutor Sgt Edward Edmund said Baptiste had several matters pending before the court and had shown a propensity to commit offences while out on bail. Jasmath later remanded both men into custody, before adjourning the matter to this morning. The investigation was led by ASP Ajith Persad of the Port-of-Spain CID and charges were laid by Cpl Kevin Ashing of the Belmont Police Station.
