The case of the kidnapping and murder of businesswoman, Vindra Naipaul-Coolman, has been adjourned to October 16. This, after concerns were raised yesterday in the Port-of-Spain Second Criminal Court before Justice Mark Mohammed by some of the accused who are yet to secure legal representation. Mohammed heard from some of the accused that they were "oppressed" and being "discriminated against by the state."
They claimed they had spent six years in prison waiting on their matter to be called and that the State had retained the services of three Senior Counsel to prosecute. The prosecution team includes Gilbert Peterson, Dana Seetahal and Israel Khan.
The men charged with kidnapping and murdering Naipaul-Coolman are: Keida Garcia; Jameel Garcia, brothers Marlon and Earl Trimmingham, Shervon Peters, Joel Fraser, Ronald Armstrong, Antonio Charles, Lyndon James, Allan Martin, Devon Peters and Dwayne Gloster. Naipaul-Coolman, 52, was snatched from her home at Lange Park, Chaguanas, while pulling into her driveway on December 19, 2006.
