Protest for a new Arima hospital
Businessman Balliram Maharaj held a silent protest calling for an Arima hospital to be built. Surrounded by placard-bearing protesters of the group Friends of the Arima Hospital yesterday, Maharaj said since 1996 the PNM government had given the undertaking to construct a hospital, but nothing has been done to date.
The protest was held in front the Arima Health Facility. Maharaj explained that Finance Minister Larry Howai gave the assurance in October that the hospital would be constructed. With no hospital in sight, Maharaj said he intends to demonstrate on the first of every month until action is taken.
