Neighbours rescue woman after attack

An in­ter­ven­tion by neigh­bours in a do­mes­tic dis­pute may have saved the life of Takiyah Hanes, who was bru­tal­ly chopped on Sun­day.Hanes is now ward­ed at the San Fer­nan­do Gen­er­al Hos­pi­tal in a se­ri­ous con­di­tion.Ac­cord­ing to a re­port, Hanes, 24, was at her Main­got Road, St Julien's Vil­lage, home on Sun­day around 10 am when a man she knows en­tered the house.

Af­ter an ar­gu­ment, the man left but re­turned short­ly af­ter with a cut­lass and chopped her sev­er­al times on the head. He then dragged her to the liv­ing room and choked her.Neigh­bours, hear­ing the com­mo­tion, rushed to her res­cue and took her to hos­pi­tal.Princes Town Po­lice are now search­ing for a 42-year-old man.

In a sep­a­rate in­ci­dent, Princes Town Po­lice are al­so search­ing for a man who shot and wound­ed Steve Shorey.Shorey, 20, was walk­ing close to his Bo­nan­za Street home on Sun­day when he was ap­proached by a man who point­ed a gun at him and an­nounced a hold-up.

Shorey, a welder, was shot in the right shoul­der as he tried to es­cape. He was tak­en to the San Fer­nan­do Gen­er­al Hos­pi­tal where he is still ward­ed.–Yvonne Webb
