A week of surveillance by police has led to the discovery of more than $2 million worth of cocaine at a house in Chaguanas.On Tuesday, Chaguanas Robbery Squad officers received a tip-off that the cocaine was being packaged for shipment and swooped down on the house at Cassie Avenue, Endeavour.As the officers approached the house, they saw a man running through the back door.
Although they chased after him, the man managed to escape through a forested area.Upon searching the house, the officers found 12 plastic buckets containing gypsum compound in a bedroom. A further search of the buckets revealed 12 packages of cocaine wrapped in clear plastic.The packages were taken to the Chaguanas Police Station and later transferred to the Organised Crime Narcotics and Firearms Bureau yesterday for testing.
No one has since been arrested but investigators are confident the suspect will be held soon.They described the drug bust as a major breakthrough in their fight against crime and vowed to crack down on the illegal drug trade in the Central Division.
