A farmer and his family are still homeless after a bush fire gutted their home on Wednesday. Homeless are Ryan Sorias, 35, a farmer, his wife and four-year-old daughter, from Farm Road, La Brea Village, Guayaguayare.Sorias said he lost everything including his farming equipment.
Surujdeo Mangaroo, chairman of the National Commission for Self Help (NCSH), visited the family yesterday and pledged $15,000 worth of building materials. Mangaroo urged that victims must supply proper documentation so that the commission can assist them quickly. He said it is the policy of the NCSH to provide assistance to fire victims within five days of a fire.
He also pleaded for people to take proper care of their surroundings, and said if care had been taken in this case and the bush around the house was well kept, this situation could have been avoided.
