Three young men who were allegedly arrested with over one kilogramme of cocaine at Gulf View Villas were denied bail when they appeared in court on Tuesday.Kern Alexander, 20, Kevin Rambarack, 19, and Brandon Huggins, 21, appeared before San Fernando Second Court Magistrate Suimongal Ramsaran. They were allegedly held with cocaine in solid and liquid form at Gulf View on April 4.
Alexander faced another count of possession of cocaine for the purpose of trafficking. He was allegedly held with the illegal drug at George Street, La Romaine.Several policemen had to help in carrying 14 brown bags of exhibits into the courtroom, including the cocaine.
They also presented gloves, syringes, a heater, an iron, knives, clothes pins, paper cutter, blender, a scale, a keyboard and other items.
The exhibits, which were transported in a panel van, were all tendered into evidence. The men were not called upon to plead since the charges were laid indictably.Police prosecutor Sgt Russell Ramoutar objected to bail, saying the police were liaising with Interpol to get any criminal records the accused might have and were also yet to do a fingerprint trace.
However, attorney Feraz Mohammed, who together with Petronella Basdeo, represented Alexander, said the police had had ample time to do a trace.Huggins was represented by attorney Mustapha Khan while Rambarack was represented by attorney Shaun Teekasingh.Noting the serious nature of the offence, the magistrate denied bail and told the accused they could apply to a judge in chambers for bail. He adjourned the matter to April 15.
