All Stars in front for Panorama title

Eight-time Panora­ma cham­pi­ons Neal & Massy Trinidad All Stars, play­ing the Clive Tele­maque/Shirlaine Hen­drick­son com­po­si­tion Ex­cite­ment, amassed 274 points to lead the large con­ven­tion­al bands at Panora­ma pre­lim­i­nar­ies com­pe­ti­tion.Re­pub­lic Bank Ex­o­dus gained 271 points for Pel­ham God­dard's arrange­ment of Pan Is Car­ni­val to earn sec­ond place. Shar­ing third berth were three bands – WIT­CO Des­per­a­does, Petrotrin Phase II Pan Groove and bpTT Rene­gades – with an ag­gre­gate of 263 points each. These bands played Spankin', Jump High and In De Mi­nor re­spec­tive­ly. The first five steel­bands have all copped the Na­tion­al Panora­ma ti­tle over the years. Arrangers for four of the five top steel­bands – Leon "Smooth" Ed­wards, Pel­ham God­dard, Robert Greenidge, and Len "Boogsie" Sharpe – have achieved this feat. The on­ly arranger who has not won a na­tion­al ti­tle is bpTT Rene­gades arranger Du­vonne Stew­art.

A to­tal of 11 Large con­ven­tion­al steel­bands have qual­i­fied for the Na­tion­al Panora­ma Medi­um and Large Fi­nals at the Queen's Park Sa­van­nah, Port-of-Spain, on March, 1. Ad­ju­di­ca­tors in this cat­e­go­ry were Lam­bert Phillip, Stephanie Pow­er, Roger Sald­in­ha, Lennox Lon­don, Jeanette John­son and Andy Chich­ester.In the Medi­um Bands cat­e­go­ry, ten passed the judges' muster to earn a play in the fi­nals. Judges in this cat­e­go­ry are Joanne Rag­bir, Richard Pierre, Ju­nior How­ell, Joslynne Sealey, Sher­ry Ann Saun­ders and Marce­line Pe­ters.Michelle Hug­gins-Watts, who is ar­rang­ing for Val­ley Harps, is the on­ly fe­male mu­si­cian to make the grade in ei­ther cat­e­go­ry for the na­tion­al fi­nals.The re­sults were re­leased a lit­tle af­ter 11 pm on Sun­day night af­ter fi­nal per­former, RBC Re­demp­tion Sound Set­ters, struck the fi­nal note in the com­pe­ti­tion at 10.20 pm.
