Po­lice are prob­ing the death of a Pe­nal pen­sion­er, whose de­com­pos­ing corpse was found in­side his shack on Tues­day evening.The dis­cov­ery of 66-year-old Syl­van Ma­haraj at his Batchiya Vil­lage home oc­curred around 4 pm when his friend Tony Jag­ger­naut went look­ing for him.

Jag­ger­naut told Pe­nal po­lice that on en­ter­ing the yard, he got a foul stench and on check­ing in­side the small wood­en home, he found Ma­haraj ly­ing faced up on a mat­tress.Cpl Jaglal and oth­er of­fi­cers from the Pe­nal Po­lice Sta­tion went to the house where Ma­haraj was seen wear­ing on­ly a pair of box­er shorts.

Po­lice said there were no vis­i­ble marks of vi­o­lence on his body but could not rule out foul play be­cause of the body's state.It was tak­en to San Fer­nan­do mor­tu­ary where an au­top­sy is to be done.
