People's National Movement (PNM) Diego Martin East Member of Parliament Colm Imbert is calling on acting Police Commissioner Stephen Williams to probe claims that Attorney General Garvin Nicholas is distributing food cards. He also called on Williams to probe allegations of food card theft from his constituency.

Imbert made the claim at a political meeting held by the party at St Augustine on Thursday night.

"Two months ago I heard that a UNC activist who I have already beaten twice in my constituency and if he come again he would get beaten for a third time....hat-trick of licks is what he will get.

"He was giving out food cards in my constituency. I want to know how he get them? I want to call on the police. I want the police to investigate how the present Attorney General..how did he get possession of food cards, and how did he get the authority to hand out food cards in my constituency?" Imbert questioned.

He also called on Prime Minister Kamla Persad-Bissessar to provide the nation with answers on these matters.

"How can the current Attorney General be handing out food cards? And you know what on the cards? Diego Martin North-East," Imbert added.

He said his office received a call at least two weeks ago from the ministry of the people informing his there were 50 food cards for distribution.

"The caller said let Mr Imbert know we have 50 food cards for distribution by the member for Diego Martin North East, which is me. And we will be sending them to your constituency office and we have some documents to record the name, telephone number and the ID number of everybody you give it out to.

"But I said when did this program start and I was told in January. I ask what happen to my cards for January and February they said they don't know...Somebody thief my food cards," Imbert added.

He also called on Williams to investigate this allegation.

"I am going to write a formal complaint to the commissioner of police. I want to know how a UNC activist ...what was he doing with the food cards that was supposed to be given to the MP for Diego Martin North East.

"They damn well thief it but time longer than twine," Imbert added.

Contacted yesterday, Nicholas said he was in London and preferred not to comment until he had heard what Imbert had said.
