Police are looking for an auto mechanic who took a Nissan GTR supercar he was paid to service out for a joyride on Sunday and crashed it, destroying the vehicle completely.

Businessman Imitiaz Edoo, the man who bought the car for his son five years ago, confirmed the incident yesterday, saying he was shocked at the man's actions.

"When we heard, we were so shocked. We just sent it in for a routine service and now it's destroyed."

Edoo, owner of Edoo's Welding and Industrial Supplies Company Limited, said he and his family had just returned from a family vacation and were still on board an aircraft at the Piarco International Airport when they learned of the accident.

"As soon as we landed and my son switched on his phone we were bombarded with messages from friends and people on social media who know the car," he added.

He said he had spoken to the mechanic yesterday and the man promised to turn himself over to the police. He said when he bought the car in 2010 it cost $1 million.

"I spoke to him and he said he will go down to the station. He said he will pay us for the car but that will take years and years. There is nothing to salvage, we have to suffer now because of someone else's carelessness."

The car, the same model driven by deceased Fast and Furious actor Paul Walker in the popular series, was wrecked and taken to the Santa Flora Police Station.

Police said around 2 pm on Sunday, officers of the Santa Flora Police Station were called to the scene by residents of Los Bajos Main Road who witnessed the accident.

The passengers were identified by police as Ricardo Millette and Ronald Jeffrey, both of Santa Flora.

The men were taken to the Siparia District Health Facility where they were treated for minor cuts and bruises and discharged.

The car, PCS 88, was seen speeding through the area minutes before the driver lost control as he reached Madhosingh's Funeral Home. The car went up into the air, overturned and landed in a ditch, but not before slicing the branches off a nearby mango tree. –SR
