Officers attached to the Guard and Emergency Branch (GEB) were involved in a riot in the Beetham Gardens, Port-of-Spain last night.
According to police reports there was a robbery in Romki Ltd Wholesale Establishment in El Socorro where a three tonne truck was filled to capacity with food stocks.
The robbery occurred around 11.30 am on Saturday where two armed men entered the premises and tied up the guards on duty.
The robbers then left with thousands of dollars worth of goods.
Officers from GEB received information yesterday night that the truck was in the Beetham Gardens.
Acting on the information, the truck was later discovered in Phase Five, Hell Yard Beetham Gardens. An officer on the scene said there was an attempt to conceal the truck under "old galvanize and dry grass."
The officers believe the truck would have been stripped for scrap metal.
When the officers arrived on the scene, they were met with hostility and a riot ensued. However, the officer said none of the mob members carried any weapons.
There were no injuries, no shots fired and no arrests were made during the riot.
Investigations into the robbery is ongoing. The investigators are having the truck searched for fingerprints.
