Dr Slinger Fran­cis­co, bet­ter known as the Mighty Spar­row, has been con­ferred with the Or­der of the British Em­pire, as part of the­birth­day ho­n­ours list of Queen Eliz­a­beth II.

The 79-year-old leg­endary ca­lyp­son­ian was born in Grena­da and spent much of his life in T&T.Cit­i­zens from the 15 Com­mon­wealth realm­scan be nom­i­nat­ed for the birth­day ho­n­ours list.

The­list con­sists of knights and dames, ap­point­ments to the Or­der of the British Em­pire and gal­lantry awards to ser­vice­men and women, and civil­ians.

An ap­point­ment to the­O­rder of the British Em­pire recog­nis­espromi­nent na­tion­al or re­gion­al fig­ures mak­ing dis­tin­guished or no­table con­tri­bu­tions in their own spe­cif­ic ar­eas of ac­tiv­i­ty.Fran­cis­co's ci­ta­tion is for ser­vices to cul­ture.

The ranks of the Or­der of the British Em­pire are Com­man­der (CBE), Of­fi­cer (OBE) and Mem­ber (MBE). Fran­cis­co was made an Of­fi­cer of the British Em­pire.
