Body found floating in Ste Madeleine pond

South­ern Di­vi­sion po­lice are ask­ing for the pub­lic's as­sis­tance to iden­ti­fy a body found float­ing in the Usine Ste Madeleine pond ear­ly yes­ter­day.

The body was that of an East In­di­an woman, be­lieved to be in her late 40s to ear­ly 50s, was seen float­ing face­down in the pond short­ly be­fore 7 am by OAS Con­stru­to­ra em­ploy­ees.

The work­ers had gone to re­fill a wa­ter tank when they saw the body about eight feet away from the bank.

Ste Made­line po­lice were alert­ed and a team of of­fi­cers, in­clud­ing Supt Zamsheed Mo­hammed, In­spec­tor Don Ga­jad­har from San Fer­nan­do CID and Sgt Shawn Dhilpaul from Homi­cide Re­gion Three, re­spond­ed.

Ga­jad­har told the T&T Guardian the body was clad in a navy blue T-shirt, black jeans and black and gold san­dals. The woman had short, black hair and was al­so wear­ing a gold-col­ored wrist­watch.

The woman was de­scribed as slim built with a dark com­plex­ion.

Ga­jad­har said the body bore no vis­i­ble marks of vi­o­lence and there were no signs of de­com­po­si­tion.

Mean­while, he is al­so call­ing on mem­bers of the pub­lic who may have in­for­ma­tion on the woman's iden­ti­ty to come for­ward or con­tact the Ste Made­line Po­lice Sta­tion at 652-3348.
