Southern Division police are asking for the public's assistance to identify a body found floating in the Usine Ste Madeleine pond early yesterday.
The body was that of an East Indian woman, believed to be in her late 40s to early 50s, was seen floating facedown in the pond shortly before 7 am by OAS Construtora employees.
The workers had gone to refill a water tank when they saw the body about eight feet away from the bank.
Ste Madeline police were alerted and a team of officers, including Supt Zamsheed Mohammed, Inspector Don Gajadhar from San Fernando CID and Sgt Shawn Dhilpaul from Homicide Region Three, responded.
Gajadhar told the T&T Guardian the body was clad in a navy blue T-shirt, black jeans and black and gold sandals. The woman had short, black hair and was also wearing a gold-colored wristwatch.
The woman was described as slim built with a dark complexion.
Gajadhar said the body bore no visible marks of violence and there were no signs of decomposition.
Meanwhile, he is also calling on members of the public who may have information on the woman's identity to come forward or contact the Ste Madeline Police Station at 652-3348.
