Four brothers held for double murder

Four broth­ers were up to late last night in po­lice cus­tody and be­ing ques­tioned in con­nec­tion with the deaths of slain stu­dents Deneil­son Smith and Mark Richards.

Last Thurs­day, the Suc­cess Laven­tille Sec­ondary School stu­dents Smith, 17, and Richards, 16, of Up­per Pic­ton Road, Laven­tille, were dragged from a taxi and shot dead while on their way home.On Fri­day, Prime Min­is­ter Kei­th Row­ley an­nounced that the army would be sta­tioned in­def­i­nite­ly in that com­mu­ni­ty in re­sponse to the killings.

Of­fi­cers of the In­ter Agency Task Force, act­ing on a tip-off, held the broth­ers at Des­per­lie Cres­cent, Laven­tille on Sat­ur­day.The broth­ers who are be­tween the ages of 25 and 38 are be­lieved to be part of the "Mus­lim" gang.

While the stu­dents were liv­ing in "Ras­ta City" area, which is con­trolled by an op­pos­ing gang, and has been at war with each oth­er for the past few years.Homi­cide of­fi­cers are con­tin­u­ing in­ves­ti­ga­tions.
