21 people fined in Sangre Grande for not wearing masks

East­ern Di­vi­sion Po­lice are re­mind­ing the pub­lic that there is a ze­ro tol­er­ance to Pub­lic Health Or­di­nance Reg­u­la­tions in­fringe­ments in the dis­trict.

The warn­ing comes as 21 per­sons were tick­et­ed for fail­ing to wear face masks in San­gre Grande yes­ter­day.

Ac­cord­ing to a me­dia re­lease from the TTPS (Trinidad and To­ba­go Po­lice Ser­vice), they were among 52 per­sons tick­et­ed for var­i­ous of­fences dur­ing a road check ex­er­cise which was con­duct­ed by of­fi­cers of the Va­len­cia Task Force, Crim­i­nal In­ves­ti­ga­tions De­part­ment (CID), and the San­gre Grande Traf­fic Sec­tion, dur­ing the hours of 5 pm and 8 pm yes­ter­day.

The re­lease states:

“East­ern Di­vi­sion Po­lice are strong­ly en­cour­ag­ing that when go­ing about their busi­ness, that mem­bers of the pub­lic be sure to wear their face masks prop­er­ly by cov­er­ing both their nose and mouth, obey poli­cies to wash hands and/or sani­tise be­fore en­ter­ing busi­ness places, and to prac­tice so­cial dis­tanc­ing by keep­ing six feet away from the near­est per­son as far as pos­si­ble.”

It adds that any­one with­out a face mask in pub­lic is li­able to a fixed penal­ty no­tice of $1,000 which po­lice are stress­ing will be ful­ly en­forced, to en­cour­age ad­her­ence to the reg­u­la­tions and to ul­ti­mate­ly cur­tail the spread of COVID-19.
