Strategic anti-crime exercises in the Southern Division have led to the arrest of 24 people and the seizure of a firearm, ammunition and narcotics in a 24-hour period.
In a statement, the TTPS said around 1.45 yesterday morning officers on mobile patrol along Carib Street, San Fernando, stopped and searched a 34-year-old suspect.
During the search, the officers found in the waist of his pants a Glock pistol fitted with a magazine containing two rounds of ammunition. The suspect was arrested and taken to the San Fernando Police Station pending further enquiries.
Officers also arrested several suspects for various offences including possession of marijuana, cocaine, apparatus, ammunition, camouflage clothing, attempted murder, robbery with violence, use of obscene language, resisting arrest and a TAC warrant.
The exercises were coordinated by Snr Supt Soodeen, Insp Lewis, Sgts Alexander and Singh and supervised by Cpl Huggins and included officers of the San Fernando Operation and Enquiry Staff.
Enquiries are continuing.
