The $85 mil­lion Scar­bor­ough RC pri­ma­ry school, which was com­mis­sioned last Au­gust, re­opened on Mon­day.

How­ev­er, the $3 mil­lion re­pairs to the floor are on­go­ing.

The slip­pery floor tiles, which re­sult­ed in at least five chil­dren and two teach­ers seek­ing med­ical at­ten­tion af­ter they fell on them, have been re­moved.

Ac­cord­ing to Trinidad and To­ba­go Uni­fied Teach­ers As­so­ci­a­tion's (TTUTA)To­ba­go rep­re­sen­ta­tive Or­lan­do Kerr the for­mer­ly tiled floor has been cleaned.

"All pre­lim­i­nary in­di­ca­tions are that the school can be oc­cu­pied by the chil­dren and staff. I vis­it­ed the school and the area is clear and clean as the con­crete floor has been washed," Kerr told Guardian Me­dia.

He could not say when the work will con­tin­ue and was await­ing of­fi­cial word from the Di­vi­sion of Ed­u­ca­tion.

Guardian Me­dia un­der­stands that the Di­vi­sion is still sourc­ing the ma­te­r­i­al re­quired to re­place the tiles.

Calls to Chief Sec­re­tary and Sec­re­tary of Ed­u­ca­tion Kelvin Charles have not been an­swered.
