Active COVID cases drop below 10,000 for first time in months

For the first time in sev­er­al months, ac­tive COVID-19 cas­es in this coun­try have dropped be­low the 10,000-per­son mark, and cur­rent­ly stand at 9,887.

In its up­date for to­day, Sun­day 20 March 2022, the Min­istry of Health al­so re­ports that 219 peo­ple have test­ed pos­i­tive for COVID-19, based on sam­ples tak­en be­tween 17th and 19th March 2022.

How­ev­er, the Min­istry al­so re­ports four (4) new deaths from the dis­ease, with three (3) of the de­ceased hav­ing mul­ti­ple co­mor­bidi­ties, and one (1) per­son hav­ing no known co­mor­bidi­ties.

Three of those re­port­ed dead from COVID-19 to­day are el­der­ly males; one de­ceased per­son is an el­der­ly fe­male.  Among the co­mor­bidi­ties from which they suf­fered are heart dis­ease, a his­to­ry of stroke, hy­per­ten­sion and di­a­betes mel­li­tus.

The Min­istry notes that these lat­est deaths have pushed up the na­tion­al death toll to 3,712 lives lost.

As of to­day, Sun­day 20th March 2022, some 135,097 peo­ple have test­ed pos­i­tive for COVID-19 in Trinidad and To­ba­go since pan­dem­ic track­ing be­gan in March 2020.

Cur­rent­ly, some 707,418 peo­ple in the coun­try are ful­ly vac­ci­nat­ed, hav­ing com­plet­ed ei­ther a one-dose or two-dos­es reg­i­men of a COVID-19 vac­cine.

And some 143,027 peo­ple have re­ceived their boost­er dos­es of a COVID-19 vac­cine, as of to­day, Sun­day, the Min­istry’s up­date re­ports.
