The funeral service for four-year-old Amarah Lallite will take place on Saturday.
Yesterday, the mother of the toddler, who was beheaded at her Arouca home, said the funeral will take place at the Faith Assembly, Arouca, from 11 am.
One week after the gruesome killing, members of the Five Rivers Cultural Caravan organised a candlelight vigil on Monday. The vigil began at Five Rivers Junction, with the participants marching north, along Range Road, then turning onto Fifth Street to Amarah’s home.
Police reported that on April 8 at 10.10 pm, Lallite’s mother, Tricia Villaruel, went to the Arouca Police Station with her clothes tattered seeking help.
Officers later escorted her to her house where the decapitated body of her child was found in one of the bedrooms. Her head was found in a barrel at the back of the house.
The autopsy revealed Amarah died of blunt force trauma to the head and decapitation. She also suffered other injuries, including multiple stabs to the face. It was alleged a car battery was used to bludgeon the child and a pair of scissors used to cut her lips and gouge out one of her eyes.
Amarah’s stepfather, Isan Contant, was charged last Friday, after Homicide detectives sought advice from DPP Roger Gaspard, SC. He appeared in court on Monday and was sent to the St Ann’s Psychiatric Hospital for observation.
