An anti-crime exercise in the Western Division between 12 noon and 9 pm on Wednesday, resulted in police recovering a firearm and ammunition at Blue Basin Road, Diego Martin.
Acting on information received, a police party went to School Street, Petit Valley, around 12.15 pm and seized a smoothbore air rifle.
An hour later, at 3.15 pm, the same officers, including PCs Hollingsworth, Mc Clean, Roberts, Figueira, Wilson-Dowers, Williams, Peltier, Myers, Allard, and WPCs Wong and Jackson, went to a river in the vicinity of the Diego Martin Main Road and searched the riverbank.
There, they recovered a black plastic bag containing a quantity of marijuana weighing 1,013 grams.
And at 5.55 pm, the officers went to Jerry Street, where they searched a bushy area in the vicinity of a church building and found a black and red draw-string backpack containing an AR platform rifle loaded with a magazine containing 30 rounds of 5.56 ammunition.
As they continued searching the area, officers also found a second black and red draw-string backpack containing a quantity of marijuana weighing 1,235 grams.
As officers searched along the river that runs parallel to the Diego Martin Main Road, in the vicinity of the library at Wendy Fitzwilliam Boulevard around 7 pm, they found a black plastic bag containing a Taurus pistol fitted with a magazine and wrapped in cloth. No one was arrested in connection with any of the finds.
Among the officers that participated in the exercise were personnel from the Western Division Task Force (WDTF), the Western Division Gang Intelligence Unit (WDGIU), the Intelligence Unit and the Canine Unit.
The exercise was sanctioned by Snr Supt Henry, Supt Williams and ASP Lynch and spearheaded by Insp Grant and Sgt Jeanville, supervised by Sgt Dominique and Cpls Edwards and Peters, along with Cpl Dennis of the WDTF, Cpl Khan of the WDGIU, and Cpl St.
Hillaire of the Canine Unit accompanied by K9 Zaniah.
