The Re­turn­ing Of­fi­cer for Dis­trict Four, Guyana, Clair­mont Min­go has named the rul­ing par­ty, A Part­ner­ship For Na­tion­al Uni­ty and Al­liance For Change (AP­NU+AFC) the win­ners of the Re­gion­al and Gen­er­al Elec­tions for the area.

AP­NU+AFC se­cured 136,057 of 217,425 valid votes cast in the gen­er­al elec­tion in Dis­trict Four and 130,289 of 207,436 valid votes cast in the re­gion­al elec­tion in Dis­trict Four.

The on­ly par­ty rep­re­sen­ta­tive to sign off on the votes was the AP­NU+AFC rep­re­sen­ta­tive.

Par­ties have un­til noon to re­quest a re­count.

The re­sults came hours af­ter the Or­ga­ni­za­tion of Amer­i­can States (OAS) on Fri­day with­drew its ob­serv­er mis­sion from Guyana’s dis­put­ed pres­i­den­tial elec­tion, cit­ing con­cerns over the fair­ness and trans­paren­cy of vote count­ing.

Top diplo­mats from the Unit­ed States, Eu­ro­pean Union, Britain and Cana­da al­so walked out of the elec­tions head­quar­ters Fri­day in George­town, Guyana’s cap­i­tal, where the count was be­ing held.

The March 2 elec­tion has been marred by ac­cu­sa­tions of fraud in favour of Pres­i­dent David Granger, who is run­ning against Ir­faan Ali of the op­po­si­tion Peo­ple’s Pro­gres­sive Par­ty to lead the for­mer British colony.
