There is an increasing number of dengue cases in the country, which the Health Ministry is combating with public awareness.
This was disclosed at a media conference held at the Ministry of Health Head office, Queen’s Park East on Friday.
Technical Director, Epidemiology Dr Avery Hinds said three counties, Victoria, St Patrick and Caroni have had the highest number of cases so far as well as St George East and West following behind.
Health Minister Terrence Deyalsingh said 31 citations have been issued to homeowners who now have seven days to clean their surroundings of breeding grounds for mosquitoes. Ten notices were given in the St Andrew/ St David district, 15 in Victoria, two in St Patrick and four in Nariva/Mayaro.
“We will be ramping up the inspections of properties by our public health inspectors and giving property owners a reasonable time to clean up their properties. If they don’t we will apply the necessary legal fines.”
The comment comes days after Deyalsingh on Tuesday said his ministry will impose fines of up to $3,500 on people whose premises become breeding grounds for mosquitoes.
