The woman found burnt in a car in Tobago died from asphyxiation, according to the results of an autopsy performed yesterday.
The burnt remains of Deborah Gopaul, an employee of Jade Distributors, were found in a black Mazda on the Claude Noel Highway in Lowlands on March 26.
Police reported that the black Mazda was found on fire on the south side of the Claude Noel Highway, near the “Welcome to Canaan/ Bon Accord” sign. Upon checking, officers found Gopaul, of John Gormon Trace, Crown Point, slumped over the steering wheel. She was dressed only in a white T-shirt and underwear. Her hands were bound but she was not gagged, police said then.
Fire officers managed to extinguish the fire.
Two containers of a liquid propellant were found at the feet of the partially burnt body.
