The man fatally shot by police on Tuesday in Arima has been identified as Stephon Plaza of Maturita Extension.
The police-involved shooting took place at around 5 pm after officers of the Northern Division Task Force, acting on information, when to Maturita Extension in search of a suspect who shot at a car in Hillview, Arima, last Friday, inflicting multiple gunshot wounds on two women.
Reports are that there was an exchange of gunfire as the officers arrived on the scene and Plaza was hit several times about the body. None of the officers was injured in the exchange.
Plaza was taken to the Arima District Health Facility where he was pronounced dead on arrival.
Police said he was wanted in connection with several shooting incidents.
An autopsy is expected to be performed today at the Forensic Science Centre in St James.
