Attorney Prakash Ramadhar has expressed satisfaction with the inclusion of former attorney general Ramesh Lawrence Maharaj SC in the Commission of Enquiry into the February 25 diving tragedy.
Ramadhar is legal counsel for the lone survivor Christopher Boodram and the relatives of two other deceased divers - Yusuf Henry and Fyzal Kurban.
In an interview yesterday, Ramadhar said, “If it is true that Ramesh Lawrence Maharaj is legal counsel to the Commission of Enquiry, then I think we all as a country are very fortunate to have a man like him contributing his talents and abilities to this effort.”
He added, “I am lifted to hear that he can be participating in this. I feel many of us in this country will feel a greater sense of confidence that a robust and independent-minded individual like Mr Maharaj will be there to guide the commission in its legal considerations and deliberations.”
Nicole Greenidge, the mother of diver Yusuf Henry, also felt happy that Maharaj was on the commission.
“His experience is vast and it will be good to have him on Commission. I hope that with him there we can get the truth,” Greenidge said.
Meanwhile, T&T’s lone commercial diving instructor, Dr Glenn Cheddie, also expressed satisfaction with the choice.
He said, “Mr Maharaj is one of the most respected attorneys in Trinidad and internationally. His legal input will be a plus on the Commission of Enquiry.”
