The decomposing body of a man was found floating in the Beetham River yesterday afternoon.
The unidentified corpse was discovered at 4.11 pm by the Hunters Search and Rescue Team.
It was seen floating in the river which runs parallel to the wastewater treatment plant at Clear Water Road, Beetham.
Officials indicated that the level of decomposition meant the body may have been in the water anywhere between five to six days.
As a result, officers were unable to say if it bore marks of violence or if there were any scars or tattoos that could assist in the identification process.
The TTPS is asking anyone with missing relatives to visit the Forensic Science Centre, St James, to assist in the identification process.
Officers are expected to return to the area today to continue the collection of forensic evidence.
