A teenager from Carenage has appeared in court charged with the murder of his neighbour and shooting two others in September.
Joshua “Joshua Storm” Rivers, 18, of Upper L’Anse Mitan Road in Carenage was remanded into custody when he appeared before Chief Magistrate Maria Busby-Earle in the Port-of-Spain Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday.
Rivers was charged with murdering 38-year-old Shernel Paul and wounding brothers Ricardo and Jason Marksman, in an incident near their homes on September 20.
Paul and the siblings were reportedly liming at a bridge in the community around 11.30 pm, when they were approached by a gunman, who fired a volley of gunshots before running away.
The trio was taken to hospital, where one brother was treated for gunshot wounds on his left hand and right shoulder, while the other received treatment for a gunshot wound to his left calf.
Paul, who was shot twice in his abdomen, remained warded at the hospital for several days before he eventually succumbed to his injuries on September 26.
In addition to being implicated for Paul’s murder, Rivers was also charged for wounding the brother with intent to cause grievous bodily harm, shooting with intent to cause grievous bodily harm, and for possession of a firearm and ammunition.
He was charged after an investigation was conducted by Senior Supt Beverly Rodriguez, ASP Arnold Lutchman and PC Nathan Scantlebury of the Region One Homicide Bureau.
Paul was remanded to reappear in court on November 26.
