On Thurs­day, the Ch­agua­nas Bor­ough Cor­po­ra­tion will de­ter­mine the next May­or and Deputy May­or, as the Cor­po­ra­tion and Coun­cil will con­vene to se­lect Al­der­men for coun­cil.

Cur­rent May­or Faaiq Mo­hammed is ex­pect­ed to se­cure a third term. How­ev­er, un­cer­tain­ty sur­rounds the Deputy May­or po­si­tion, as the list of al­der­men re­mains pend­ing.

The Elec­tions and Bound­aries Com­mis­sion is await­ing a re­quest from the Unit­ed Na­tion­al Con­gress for the nec­es­sary names.

Yes­ter­day, amidst spec­u­la­tion about the May­or and Deputy May­or of the Bor­ough Cor­po­ra­tion, eight Coun­cil­lors were sworn in.

The Unit­ed Na­tion­al Con­gress se­cured 7 of the 8 seats in the Cor­po­ra­tion, with the Peo­ple's Na­tion­al Move­ment win­ning the eighth.

Ch­agua­nas May­or Faaiq Mo­hammed, speak­ing at the swear­ing-in cer­e­mo­ny, em­pha­sised his com­mit­ment to cre­at­ing bet­ter com­mu­ni­ties. He stat­ed, "With un­wa­ver­ing ded­i­ca­tion and an un­yield­ing spir­it, we are en­trust­ed with the re­spon­si­bil­i­ty to cre­ate bet­ter com­mu­ni­ties that res­onate with the as­pi­ra­tions of each res­i­dent. Our young, vi­brant coun­cil mem­bers and those young at heart stand be­fore you to­day ea­ger and ready to serve."

He added, "Dri­ven by the slo­gan 'cre­at­ing bet­ter com­mu­ni­ties,' we are unit­ed in our de­ter­mi­na­tion to cul­ti­vate en­vi­ron­ments where in­di­vid­u­als can thrive, feel safe, and build mean­ing­ful con­nec­tions. As we em­bark on this trans­for­ma­tive jour­ney, our col­lec­tive strength lies in uni­ty, em­pa­thy, and a shared pur­pose."

The next sit­ting to se­lect al­der­men is sched­uled for Thurs­day at 1 pm at the Ch­agua­nas Bor­ough Cor­po­ra­tion.

Di­anne Lack­han, Chief Ex­ec­u­tive Of­fi­cer of the Ch­agua­nas Bor­ough Cor­po­ra­tion, over­saw the swear­ing-in cer­e­mo­ny. She en­cour­aged the new­ly elect­ed coun­cil by say­ing, "You have the pow­er to cre­ate change and bet­ter com­mu­ni­ties. In the words of Va­lerie Jar­rett, when you are in lo­cal gov­ern­ment, you are on the ground, look­ing in­to the eyes and hearts of the peo­ple you serve. This is now your sig­nif­i­cant man­date."

To­day, the list of Al­der­men should be made pub­lic and from those can­di­dates and coun­cilors, the May­or and Deputy May­or will be se­lect­ed.
