President of the Chaguanas Chamber of Industry and Commerce, Baldath Maharaj, says citizens living in the Chaguanas Borough and those travelling from north to south are forced to endure too many hours in traffic.
Maharaj says the Borough of Chaguanas has grown tremendously in population and commerce; however, the infrastructure hasn't been upgraded to accommodate the additional vehicles.
He is asking for the Borough to be given priority in the highway upgrade and expansion program.
According to Maharaj, overpasses are needed to ease the traffic woes.
“We are in discussions with the Ministry of Works,” he revealed. “Minister Sookhai confirmed last month that the next overpass to be considered would be in Chaguanas.”
“I know there is one in the Macoya area, but we are asking if Chaguanas could be prioritised,” the chamber boss said, “because—not only in the peak season but off-peak as well—there is major gridlock, especially to go to and from school and work, and things like that.”
Maharaj, was a guest on today’s edition of CNC3’s The Morning Brew show.
