Pres­i­dent of the Ch­agua­nas Cham­ber of In­dus­try and Com­merce, Bal­dath Ma­haraj, says cit­i­zens liv­ing in the Ch­agua­nas Bor­ough and those trav­el­ling from north to south are forced to en­dure too many hours in traf­fic.

Ma­haraj says the Bor­ough of Ch­agua­nas has grown tremen­dous­ly in pop­u­la­tion and com­merce; how­ev­er, the in­fra­struc­ture hasn't been up­grad­ed to ac­com­mo­date the ad­di­tion­al ve­hi­cles.

He is ask­ing for the Bor­ough to be giv­en pri­or­i­ty in the high­way up­grade and ex­pan­sion pro­gram.

Ac­cord­ing to Ma­haraj, over­pass­es are need­ed to ease the traf­fic woes.

“We are in dis­cus­sions with the Min­istry of Works,” he re­vealed. “Min­is­ter Sookhai con­firmed last month that the next over­pass to be con­sid­ered would be in Ch­agua­nas.”

“I know there is one in the Ma­coya area, but we are ask­ing if Ch­agua­nas could be pri­ori­tised,” the cham­ber boss said, “be­cause—not on­ly in the peak sea­son but off-peak as well—there is ma­jor grid­lock, es­pe­cial­ly to go to and from school and work, and things like that.”
