President of the T&T Taxi Drivers’ Network Adrian Acosta says unless San Fernando Mayor Junia Regrello rescinds his order to relocate the San Fernando to Port-of-Spain and San Fernando to Chaguanas taxi hubs to King’s Wharf, today's protest will be the start of more to come.
Several commuters used alternative transport or paid extra to travel from San Fernando to Chaguanas when taxi drivers operating the route shut down in protest.
The drivers also staged a quiet protest at the taxi stand atop High Street.
Acosta says drivers will not be moving to the Wharf on Monday due to security concerns.
From around 7 am, San Fernando to Chaguanas taxi drivers stopped taking passengers and adorned their vehicles with placards.
They have also started a petition against the move.
