This morning was not too pleasant for some Pleasantville residents who awoke to the stench of garbage opposite the Pleasantville Health Centre.
The district's local government councillor, Robert Parris, told Guardian Media that he plans to ask the San Fernando City Corporation to investigate the contractor who was seen dumping a truckload of garbage on Prince Albert Street in the wee hours. The matter was also referred to the Solid Waste Management Company.
The nauseating stench prompted residents to contact the Corporation and by 8 am, the contractor sent another vehicle to remove the garbage and sanitise the area.
A contractor dumped garbage opposite the Pleasantville Health Centre on Tuesday morning.
Parris said that CCTV footage has been obtained, which shows the garbage being dumped. He said that so far, the contractor’s excuse was that the truck sustained mechanical issues, therefore the garbage was dumped so that the truck could be taken to service. The other explanation was that there were issues at the Forres Park landfill that prevented the truck from releasing the garbage.
“This contractor put all his stuff across the road from the health centre. I saw that as more than a mere coincidence. The community will not tolerate dumping from anyone. I caught some contractors dumping some stuff in Pleasantville recently and I told them to pack up and leave. One of the residents told me they came outside and stopped the truck because they are going to dump the garbage outside the indoor facility. I see this as no mere coincidence and I know we're close to an election season,” Parris said.
